What is Xanthelasma?

Xanthelasma are soft, yellow coloured cholesterol deposits around the upper or lower eyelids. They are fatty deposits classed as minor growths but do not affect the function of the eye area.
Although they’re not painful and pose no direct health risk, they could be a sign of high cholesterol levels or even heart disease. Therefore, if you notice these patches, it’s recommended to seek a medical evaluation. Even with these lifestyle changes and treatment, the xanthelasma lesions themselves do not typically disappear and may require intervention for removal.

Reasons to have Xanthelasma Removal

The skin on your eyelids is really thin and sensitive, which is why we need to use a method that’s gentle and precise.

Your treatment begins with an in-person consultation where our specialist doctors will assess your eyelid xanthelasma and take a detailed medical history. If necessary, we’ll then schedule your eyelid xanthelasma removal procedure.

The removal treatment is both straightforward and painless, typically lasting no more than 30 minutes for both eyes.

Benefits of Xanthelasma Removal

Laser xanthelasma removal is a popular and effective treatment method for addressing xanthelasma, the yellowish plaques typically found around the eyelids. Some of the benefits of using laser to remove your xanthelasma instead of going the surgical route are:
  • Quick Procedure and Recovery
  • Safe and Minimal Discomfort
  • Less Invasive
  • Reduced Risk of Scarring
  • Suitable for Most Skin Types
  • Reduced Redcurrant Rates
  • High Quality Equipment
  • Experienced Medical Professionals

What the Treatment Involves

Our medical practitioners will diagnose your Xanthelasma by examining the skin around your eyes during your consultation before advising you on treatment. Advanced Electrolysis Lasers will be used to successfully remove these cholesterol deposits in just one treatment. The procedure involves resurfacing the area affected and removing the lesion with high precision. Laser removal offers accuracy and removes the lesion with little or no scarring and little or no pigmentation both which occur at higher rates with other forms of removal.
Xanthelasma Removal using Laser is straightforward and takes around 15 minutes per eyelid. It is completely pain free thanks to the use of numbing cream. Following the procedure, a small abrasion will appear in the treated area. Soon a small scab will form which takes seven to ten days to heal. During this period, it is vital to allow natural healing and natural release of the scab. In some cases, there may be a slight discoloration on the treatment area, but this should fade with time.
