What is a Thigh Lift?

A Thigh Lift (sometimes known as a ‘thighplasty’) is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from the upper legs, resulting in more toned, firm, and healthy-looking thighs. This procedure is particularly beneficial for those who have experienced significant weight loss or have sagging skin due to aging.

Reasons to Have a Thigh Lift

Excess skin and fat around the thighs can cause both physical discomfort and emotional distress. Reasons to consider a Thigh Lift include:
  • Removing loose, sagging skin due to aging or weight loss
  • Reducing chafing and discomfort caused by excess skin
  • Improving the overall contour and appearance of the thighs
  • Enhancing self-confidence and body image

Benefits of a Thigh Lift

A Thigh Lift offers several benefits:
  • Smoother, more toned thighs
  • Reduced skin irritation and chafing
  • Enhanced body contour and silhouette
  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Long-lasting results with proper maintenance

What the Treatment Involves

Thigh Lifts can be performed under local or general anaesthetic, depending on the amount of skin that needs to be removed. The procedure typically involves the following steps:
  1. An incision is made along the inner groin crease.
  2. The skin is lifted down to the muscle layer, and the excess is removed.
  3. The remaining tissue is restitched with several layers of specialised stitching.
The procedure generally takes around two hours, but this can vary based on the individual’s specific needs. While some visible scarring is inevitable, the incisions are made as inconspicuous as possible, and scars will fade over time.

Recovery and Side Effects

After a Thigh Lift, patients should take at least 3-5 days to rest. Bruising and swelling typically subside within ten days, and most people can return to work after 2-3 weeks. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks and may need to wear a compression garment to aid in healing. Side effects can include visible scarring, bruising, and swelling. In rare cases, there may be risks of bleeding and infection, which can require further treatment.
