What is Hyperhidrosis Botox®?

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating can be treated with Botox. It typically affects; the scalp, the armpits, the feet and hands, and the groin area. Hyperhidrosis treatment utilises Botox injections in order to block the nerve signals which cause excessive sweating without major side effects. Botox injections utilise botulinum toxin treatment which is able to block the signals from the nerves involved in excessive sweating. This prevents the sweat glands from producing excessive amounts of sweat. As the nerves regenerate over time, maintenance treatments are needed to maintain the results. With this treatment, clients typically find that in time, they can go for longer periods of time without needing treatment. Botulinum Toxin, commonly referred to as Botox® is a FDA Approved common and painless procedure.
Botox® is an injectable wrinkle muscle relaxer. It uses botulinum toxin type A, to temporarily paralyze a muscle.
Botox® treatments are minimally invasive. It’s considered a safe and effective cosmetic treatment with millions of treatments carried out worldwide on a daily basis.
Although, Botox® is a cosmetic procedure it can also be used for a range of health benefits too.

Hyperhidrosis Botox® Treatment

Your sweat glands work when you get a message from the body’s nervous system, if they get too many messages they keep on working and you can sweat excessively. This is called hyperhidrosis; if this happens under your arms it is called axillary hyperhidrosis. Our advanced Botox® treatments given by injection into the skin can prevent this from reoccurring as well as any flushing or blushing that occurs in the area due to social anxiety.

When injected into the skin where you are sweating, Botox® blocks the signals from the nervous system that supply the sweat glands; this stops them working so hard and prevents them from producing too much sweat.

For treating Hyperhidrosis with Botox® injections, numbing cream is applied to the skin to make the procedure more comfortable.

The treatment itself takes around thirty minutes and involves having very small injections just under the skin in the affected areas.

This advanced treatment is available at Surrey and Harpenden.

What the Treatment Involves

Small amounts of Botox® are injected into the muscle of the problem area. The Botox® toxin relaxes the muscle by hindering all signals that are normally made from the nerve to contract the muscle.
The effect of the treatment will usually last for around 3-4 months and you will require a top up to maintain the results.
Botox® injections into the skin of the face will temporarily paralyse the nerves in the skin that cause blushing. It works by changing the body's response to naturally occurring chemicals, such as noradrenaline, that control the dilation and constriction of blood vessels. The effects may last up to six months. Most importantly, Botox® treatments are literally painless. The maximum pain you will experience is the prick/pinching as the needle is being injected into the skin. However, your Consultant may be able to apply a topical numbing agent before the procedure if your not a needle person.
