Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating can be treated with Botox. It typically affects; the scalp, the armpits, the feet and hands, and the groin area.
Hyperhidrosis treatment utilises Botox injections in order to block the nerve signals which cause excessive sweating without major side effects.
Botox injections utilise botulinum toxin treatment which is able to block the signals from the nerves involved in excessive sweating. It works by changing the body's response to naturally occurring chemicals, such as noradrenaline, that control the dilation and constriction of blood vessels. The effects may last up to six months.
Most importantly, Botox® treatments are literally painless. The maximum pain you will experience is the prick/pinching as the needle is being injected into the skin. However, your Consultant may be able to apply a topical numbing agent before the procedure if your not a needle person.
