Blepharoplasty Surgery

Blepharoplasty, also referred to as eyelid lift, is one of the most common functional and aesthetic facial plastic surgeries. It is a cosmetic procedure that deals with the contours of the upper and lower eyelid space.
Essentially, blepharoplasty involves removing excess skin and muscle from the upper or lower eyelid, and reducing or repositioning the underlying fat to a younger-looking configuration. If you are thinking about undergoing blepharoplasty, but don’t know a lot about what it involves, the benefits and how we provide this treatment please contact Harley Street Clinic Surrey & Harpenden.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery is a very common procedure to remove excess skin or fat from the eyelids. The aim is to improve hooded or drooping eyelids or eye bags. This treatment can be done under local anaesthetic with sedation or under general anaesthetic by making a incision along the eyelid crease in the natural skin fold of the eyelid removing excess skin, fat/muscle. The eyelids can over time look dull and tired. This treatment is one of the most popular aesthetic facial procedures performed and helps give the upper face a rejuvenated and fresher appearance.

Reasons to Have Blepharoplasty

The eye area is the first area where ageing can be seen. Small improvements in this area can lead to a major impact on the face’s appearance, as the eyes are a main area on the face. Eyelid surgery will restore a more younger looking appearance, rejuvenate radiance and youth.

As you age, your skin naturally loses elasticity and fat padding. This can make the lower eyelid appear puffy, wrinkled, and baggy. The lower eye lid area may also start to appear darker in colour leaving a dull look. Lower eyelid surgery can make the undereye smoother, creating a more youthful and fresh look. A cheek or ‘Soof’ lift is commonly performed with the lower eyelid procedure to enhance the cheeks and contouring of this area of the face.
Blepharoplasty can be performed for a range of reasons;

  • A tired look is the most popular reason. As we age, skin can begin to droop, and protrusion of the underlying fat can cause a heavy hooded eyelid look or wrinkly skin due to the skin laxity. This is associated with bulginess on the inner aspect of the eyelid.
  • To remove excess skin, muscle and fat in the lower eyelid.
  • If the appearance of the eyelids are asymmetrical, blepharoplasty can be performed to improve symmetry.
  • Saggy upper eyelid skin (also known as ptosis) can interfere with the visual field. Surgery is performed to remove this obstruction and improve vision.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

There are numerous benefits of undergoing blepharoplasty. One of the top benefits is that this procedure can help restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the eyes, as well as improve vision that may have been affected by eyelid droop.

As well as this, it may also help reduce wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes, and can be used to correct any asymmetries in the upper and lower eyelids. With these improvements, patients often experience improved self-esteem, confidence and self-image.

  • Restoring the shape of the upper eyelid for a youthful appearance.
  • Looking more rested and alert.
  • Increased self confidence
  • Reduced under eye dark circles
  • Improved vision
  • Enhanced eye shape
  • Refreshed appearance
  • Reduced skin irritation
  • Youthful appearance.
  • Improvement in lower eyelid hollowing.

Blepharoplasty Before & After

At Harley Street Clinic, our Blepharoplasty procedure has yielded remarkable results, as seen in our recent before and after photos. The images demonstrate the transformative impact of this treatment, particularly on the delicate area around the eyes. Before the treatment, the client exhibited signs of aging, including noticeable lines and wrinkles under the eyes, as well as a darker, uneven skin tone. These common concerns often contribute to a tired and older appearance, affecting one’s overall facial aesthetics and self-confidence. After undergoing Blepharoplasty, you can see the difference! The post-treatment photo reveals younger-looking eyes with a smoother and more rejuvenated appearance. The lines and wrinkles under the eyes have been greatly diminished, creating a firmer and more youthful skin texture. Additionally, the skin tone under the eyes appears lighter and more even, contributing to a refreshed and vibrant look.
This transformation highlights the effectiveness of our Blepharoplasty procedure in addressing multiple signs of aging. By targeting both the upper and lower eyelids, our skilled practitioners at Harley Street Clinic have successfully revitalised the client’s eye area, providing a natural and lasting enhancement that boosts both appearance and confidence.

What the Treatment Involves

Blepharoplasty at Harley Street Clinic Surrey & Harpenden is a safe, effective procedure. You will be in the safe, professional and expert hands of our world class surgical team. In order to ensure that the procedure is painless, blepharoplasty will be performed under a local anesthetic. For upper eyelids, the surgeon cuts along the fold of the eyelid. The surgeon removes some excess skin, muscle and possibly fat. Then the surgeon closes the cut. On the lower lid, the surgeon makes a cut just below the lashes in your eye's natural crease or inside the lower lid. The surgeon removes or redistributes excess fat, muscle and sagging skin. Then the surgeon closes the cut. Aftercare will be advised by your surgeon. Superficially the wound on the skin will be secure and healed within 2 weeks. However, the internal tissue and muscles will still need time to heal. If you require any more information, feel free to contact our team, at Reigate, Surrey & Harpenden.
