Botox is a commonly recognised brand of botulinum toxin type A and is a prescription-only medicine. It works by temporarily reducing activity in selected muscles that contribute to the development of facial expression lines.
Repeated movements such as smiling, frowning, squinting and raising the eyebrows can cause lines to become more noticeable over time. Where clinically appropriate, Botox can soften selected dynamic line by temporarily reducing the movement of specific muscles.
Botox is not suitable for every facial line or every patient. Concerns caused primarily by volume loss, skin laxity, sun damage or changes in skin quality require a different treatment approach.
A prescription treatment can only be recommended following an individual medical consultation.
Anti-wrinkle Botox is suited to selected adults who are concerned about expression lines and want a temporary, non-surgical treatment. Suitability cannot be determined by age or the appearance of a line alone.
Your practitioner will consider your facial anatomy, muscle activity, skin condition, medical history and expectations. Treatment may not be suitable if the concern is primarily caused by volume loss, significant skin laxity or another factor that Botox cannot address.

Your appointment begins with an individual consultation with a qualified medical practitioner. This allows you to discuss your concerns, the outcome you would like to achieve and any previous aesthetic treatments.
Your practitioner will assess your facial anatomy, muscle movement, medical history, current medication and treatment goals. If a prescription treatment is considered suitable, the available options, potential benefits, limitations and risks will be discussed with you before treatment is prescribed.
Every face has different proportions, expressions and patterns of muscle movement. If a prescription treatment is recommended, then your treatment plan will therefore be based on your individual anatomy rather than a standard set of injection points.
The treatment area is cleansed before the planned injection points are assessed and marked. Small amounts of the prescribed product are then administered into selected muscles using a fine needle.
Your practitioner will provide aftercare guidance based on your treatment plan and medical needs. Mild redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising may occur around the injection points and normally settles naturally.
Future treatment is not automatic. Your suitability will be reassessed before any further prescription is issued.
